Caerthe's Cooks Guild

Caerthe's cooks guild is designed to further the art and science of cooking in the Barony of Caerthe (Denver, CO.)  Usually one meeting per month is facilitated by Mistress Katherine Holford, the guild head.  Meetings are based around a topic, always  include discussion, often there is a hands-on activity, sometimes hand-outs are available, and we always share food.  Garb is preferred, but not required. Experience is not necessary.
Newcomers are ALWAYS WELCOME!

Here is the review of Caerthe's Cooks Guild activities for the year 2001

2000 ... 1999...

Sunday December 9

Our traditional Christmas cookie baking party was hosted by the gracious Lady Kseniya and THL Johann. Thank you both for opening the doors to your home to Cooks Guild. It was wonderful sitting in the sunshine munching on cookie creations like the traditional Blinkie the three-eyed fish.

Sunday November 18

The hot lunch table at the Toys for Tots Tournament was a rousing success and raised over $165 for the cause. Many thanks go to THL Arwen of the Stewpot for the huge roaster of delicious beef stew, Mistress Kate for the warming Miso soup, THL Gwen Cat who contributed a whole roasted turkey (documented too,) but the surprise hit was Aethelinde's sausage, noodle, and cabbage dish which disappeared in record time. Thanks to everyone who prepared and brought food, and to those who ate and donated to the Toys for Tots brass bowl.

Sunday October 28

We met in shift, one group making 2 large pots of stock (one beef, one chicken,) the second group making a batch of sausages for the lunch table at Toys for Tots.

Saturday September 1

The Caerthen Cooks' Guild had a combined August/September meeting at Fields of Gold, which was lots of fun. I do apologize for only holding one meeting - it was not planned, but going to Pennsic this August consumed all the available time.

FRIDAY July 20

We had a fantastic guild meeting in July. A full dozen came, many in kimono, to enjoy the new moon, the delicious food and the engaging conversation. Many thanks to everyone who attended and especially to Mistress Kate for bringing a box of loaner kimonos, and to Lady Ksenyia and THL Johann for opening their lovely home to the guild. Domo arigato!

FRIDAY June 1

This was a working guild meeting to prepare fruit tarts for the Caerthe Holiday picnic. The diligence and dedication of Cooks Guild provided approximately 160 small tarts for the Baronial Mystery. The orange, strawberry, cherry, and almond tarts took many hours to prepare, and vanished to much acclaim in less than 5 minutes. Well Done Cooks Guild!!!

SATURDAY May 19

The Teahouse is beautiful, the food was very tasty and reasonable on the pricing, the tea delightful, and the company WONDERFUL! We had a total of 14 at lunch and 13 for the Celestial Seasonings tour. (MINT will never mean the same thing again.) Thanks to Lady Cecelia for organizing this Cooks Guild meeting.
The Teahouse is the building that was a given to the City of Boulder from Tajikistan. They have a web site if you would like more info. www.boulderteahouse.com

Celestial Seasonings also has a web site www.celestialseasonings.com

April 8

We had a lovely visit to the botanic gardens. The weather was sunny, springy, but cool, and the crocus, violets, birches, and pines were in glorious shades of greens and other colors. We had a wonderful picnic including steamed pork buns, bread, cheese, and a wonderful view from over the pond in the Japanese garden.

Sunday March 18

We shared wonderful roast lamb, a dish of small cabbages, cheese, asparagus, a cranberry (I think) liqueur and other stuff I have forgotten. The meeting was small, but a newish member needed school information and the group was happy to help her out.

February 21
This meeting was FANTASTIC, it was very well attended, and THL Arwen (with assitance from THL Maredudd and Mistress Kate had samples of many MANY spices to pass around to look at, sniff, taste. She also had prepared a great handout with many spice blends on it, and after the reading sniffing and tasting session she let the participants loose to grind and mix their own Poudres. Soon everyone was mixing, blending, sniffing and even sampling their blends on variuous dishes prepared for the potluck.

If you missed it you missed a GREAT guild meeting.

Saturday, January 6th at Caerthes 12th Night.
The Caerthen Cooks Guild, the Stewpot, and Hawk's Hollow cookery workshop cooperated to provide a delicious and plentiful donation sideboard lunch at Caerthes 12th night celebration. Proceeds of the lunch were donated to the Kingdom of the Outlands War fund, in hopes that they perhaps be used to purchase a shade pavillion in the kingdom colors.
We raised $230.00 for the cause!!!!!
The lunch included a huge and wonderful cooker full of beef stew, the famous mustard sauce (for eggs, sausages, even spoons,) Ember Day tarts, a Brie Tart, Fystes of Portingale, olives, and sliced oranges contributed by THL Arwen of Southernwood (who is also the new Baronial A&S Champion - Congratulations!!!)
Many Crustades of Tame Creatures, Pies of Paris, and a nice pot of Mishmishya by THL Maredudd both of the Stewpot
A delicious salmon in pastry, fresh plum pudding, cherry bread pudding, pork pie, lamb pie, and a cawl (Welsh pottage) by Aethelinde of the Hawks Hollow Cookery Workshop
