Caerthe's Cooks Guild

Caerthe's cooks guild is designed to further the art and science of cooking in the Barony of Caerthe (Denver, CO.)  Usually one meeting per month is facilitated by Mistress Katherine Holford, the guild head.  Meetings are based around a topic, always  include discussion, often there is a hands-on activity, sometimes hand-outs are available, and we always share food.  Garb is preferred, but not required. Experience is not necessary.
Newcomers are ALWAYS WELCOME!

Sunday, December 3, 2006 Cookies and Caroling is always a wonderful time our GuildMistress and also Emma had brought some wonderful cookies and much fun was had with painting and decorating them with colored sugars, dragees and more. We sang as we decorated and our most excellent Excellency, Mary, adder her personal touch to many cookies. Thank you all for helping us have such a wonderful start to the holiday season.

Sunday, November 19, 2006 we had a delicious "harvest feast" including chicken and pomegranate sauce, sausage stew, an artichoke pie that was incredible, and a lombardi tart that was also quite yummy. Oh and an apple crisp crumble and bread and I cant recall what else, but it was all really yummy. Thanks for all who came to join us.

Sunday, October 15, 2006 This was a working meeting hosted by Furukusu-dono to help prepare lunch food for the upcoing Caerthe A&S event. The three of us(Furukusu, Kate and Gwen Cat) prepared a small mountain of gyoza, and got a start on the pork balls. The samples of both were delicious (and the Octo-dogs Kate brought were fun.

Friday, September 22, 2006 Cooks guild met at Mistress Gwen Cats uchi for a Japanese evening and a chance to testdrive the Japanese lunch planned for Caerthe's A&S event in October. Everyone brought delectable godies, and Furukusu-dono presented a most graifying selection of dishes: gyoza, cucumber pickles, and broccholi with a mustard sauce were the stanadout favorites (YUM!) The beef with burdock was also very tasty, and I personally found the turnip pickles delightful as well. Thank you all for a wonderful evening.

Sunday, August 12, 2006 Lady Kestrel very kindly hosted a wonderful meeting in her herb garden. We sniffed lemon balms and thymes, tasted amazing syrups with mint or ginger (the lemon balm was MY favorite) and tasted salads and gnocci. Add to that the entertainment of one dog and 2 kitties and a grand time was had by all.

Friday, July 21, 2006 Cooks guild met in the gardens of Mistress Gwen Cats Villa for a relaxing evening Roman style. We grilled meats and veggies and feasted on succulent salmon, marvelous mushrooms, fresh fruits, and much more. It was a great turnout with guests from as far away as Dragonspine (I hope you will join us again soon!) The liquid refreshments flowed and the conversations ranged from basic recipes to the planning of a full scale event. Thank you all for a wonderful evening.

SUNDAY, June 11, 2006 We sat on the lovely shaded front porch and enjoyed a leisurely repast that included grilled sausages, fresh bread, cheese, sweets and wine. It was a wonderfully relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Thanks to all who came, shared and enjoyed.

SUNDAY, May 7, 2006 30 Minute Mozzerrella was FUN, easy and DELICIOUS. The process is not intimidating and in a short time everyone had their own blob of cheese to knead, dunk in the hot whey to rewarm/soften and knead some more till it suddenly stopped breaking and became mozzerrella! , next time the Guild does a demo, we could make mozzella on site, then use it in piperfarces!
Thank you Mistress Kate for opening your home and letting us all play in your kitchen.

SATURDAY, April 22, 2006 Thank you to everyone who helped at our table at the Guild Faire - we generated a lot of interest! All the food was wonderful: Kseniya's honey cake, Emma's mushroom dish was incredible, and of course, Gwen and Arwen brought lots and lots of yummy food, including Gwen's shrimps and Arwen's fresh-mader piperfarces. Gwen also made a wonderful sign for Cooks Guild, and provided business cards with our website address. Thank you! and I have a pile of chocolate treats from the Autocrat for everyone.

Not to forget mentioning the Sausage making class. It was VERY well received, with many wonderful folks (including BOTH our Baron and Baroness) lending hands in the kitchen to produce a delicious bunch of sausages which VANISHED as part of the pot-luck lunch. Thanks to all who helped and hopefully learned and had a great time!

Sunday, March 26, 2006 The Russian Easter Eggs (Psanky) making meeting was small and mellow and more of a discussion of eggs, Spring, and the need to recharge for the coming months. Many thanks to Lady Ksenyia for bringing her books, and to Mistress Kate for providing tools and hosting the gathering.

Sunday, February 26, 2005 What an amazing amount of yummy food and wonderful people we had. In no particular order, and with the caveat that I KNOW Im forgetting some really tasty things: there was a cheese tart, a honey beef roast, bread with dipping oils, more bread with cheese, beef skewers, something delicious and sweet (someone remind me, all I recall was YUM.) Finally there was a stunning creation of chicken and cheese wrapped in puff pastry dough that was Sarah's farewell. Be well in your new home Sarah and know you will be missed!
We also sampled the cheese created at the October 23, 2005 meeting. The 'Scola Blue' was quite strong and sharp (how appropriate) but would be improved with being made in a thicker layer. next time a double batch. The Derby was quite good but we saved the other half of the wheel to continue aging it another few months.
I know there were many other yummy dishes, please feel free to remind me of your favorite. The enjoyment of the food was only enhanced by the stories, any number of which began with "No S#!^ There I was..." A wonderful way to spend an afternoon, with good food, good friends and good stories.

Sunday, January 22, 2005 Cooks guild members and many guests welcomed in the Year of the Dog a bit early, with a DimSum brunch at China Jade. As usual, the food was delicious, plentiful, filling, and inexpensive. We spread to two of the large round tables and discussion and plates of food travled freely from one to the other. Thank you Mistress Kate for organizing this wonderful meeting. After brunch many attendees spent time exploring the asian stores in the Far East Center.
