Motivating, encouraging and inspiring are three words students
often use to describe their experiences in the Metro State Art Department.
No matter what their area of interest, students have every opportunity
to fully develop their talents.
Provide Hands-On Experiences: Students have opportunities
to interface with the professional community through conferences,
field experiences and internships with galleries, museums, artist
studios, design firms and other businesses. The Visiting Artist
Program hosts nationally and internationally recognized artists
and scholars who work directly with students. Students also have
an immediate interface with Metro State's Center for the Visual
Arts, the Art Department Senior Experience Gallery and the Auraria
Campus Emmanuel Gallery. Study abroad opportunities are offered
to students through the departmentıs art history program.
Teach Cutting-Edge Material: Our curriculum combines art
theory and practice, and is extremely responsive to technological
changes, providing students the ability to work at the cutting edge
of fine art, design, crafts, art history and art education. The
art history program offers a full range of course work with a unique
focus in contemporary art and art theory.
Prepare Students for the Future: We have a high job placement
rate, particularly in the design and art education areas. Many outstanding
studio and art history graduates are accepted to and continue their
studies at prestigious graduate programs around the country.
Most of the professors here expect you, even force you, to challenge
yourself. They made me expand my own ideas and my appreciation for
other artists.

Our diverse student body allows students to get opinions on
their work from people beyond their peer groups. This creates an
incredibly positive environment.

Our faculty are internationally and nationally recognized, with
accomplished publishing and exhibition records. They hold the most
advanced degrees in the arts, and students work one-on-one with
them in all courses.
