COLOMATYC meeting in Colorado Springs

With Governor Ritter's focus on education from pre-school through graduate school, we feel that there is a strong need to address the preparation of mathematics teachers for kindergarten through high school.

We will start with an open forum in which participants can discuss issues, questions, and problems that we, as college mathematics teachers, have regarding the mathematical preparation of public school teachers. Clark Dollard will facilitate this activity for about 30 minutes.

Then we could say, "Wow, wasn't that fun?  This is why we want to let everyone know about The Rocky Mountain Association of Mathematics Teachers Educators, RMAMTE."  Mary Sloan will present information on this organization. It is part of the Association of Mathematics Teachers Educators. See the web site at http://clem.mscd.edu/~bevans21/rmamte.htm and the national site at http://www.amte.net.

Look for our special session at the Rocky Mountain Section of the MAA.

Special Session:
Partnering to Improve K-12 Mathematics
Organized by Ben Sayler (BHSU - CAMSE), Michelle Chamberlin (UW), and
Robert Powers (UNC)

In this session, we invite talks related to how university faculty and K-12 leaders are working to strengthen mathematics education. Topics in which university faculty and K-12 leaders are working together are welcome, including university-school district partnerships, changes in K-12 instruction, and teacher professional development projects. In addition, topics relevant to teacher education are welcome, including ideas, innovations, and investigations of programs of preparation in elementary mathematics, secondary mathematics, methods of teaching mathematics, and graduate mathematics education. This session is
partially sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (RMAMTE).

Proposals to the RMAMTE Special Session are due by Monday, March 3.
