December 2000
December
6, the traditional Cookies and Caroling, This was also the Guild Open
House for the month of December. Since the sites ovens were packed
for moving Mistress Kate brought pre-baked cookies for everyone to decorate.
It was a wonderful meeting, several new faces participated in the decorating,
many fighteres, fencers, and other folk tasted the decorated delights.
Sweet music was provided by an open choir very ablely guided by Mistress
Caelen, Maestra Franchesca, Master Crispin, and many others who lent their
voices and enthusiasm.

November
2000
November 5, we visited the Bombay Clay Oven
to enjoy good Indian food and good company, due to the weather there were
only 2 of us, but it was a delicious meal including saag paneer, tandoori
chicken, naan, and chai. We discussed the just passed Caerthen Arts and
Sciences competition , classes, and feast. We also mulled over plans for
future Cooks Guild meetings, having had offeres of classes on spice mixes,
comfits, a trip to Boulder for the Tea house and a tour of Celestial Seasonings,
and a request to make tarts for an upcoming event. |

October 2000
The Russian
Tea, hosted by Lady Kseniya was an oasis of refinement. The five attending
members saw examples of Russian laquer-ware, silver-work, and of course
vodka and caviar. Also sampled were dark bread, smoked and pickled fish,
a spiced lamb dish, and almond tarts. Thank you Lady Kseniya for your
your efforts on behalf of the Cooks Guild.

September
2000
Cooks
guild met at the fighterpractice site. In addition to many regular cooks
guild members we had several guests to the Barony, and new transplants
join us in making wonderful herbal vinegars, and pickled daikon. We also
pickled beets using a recipe from Rumpolt, and (after mellowing) they
will be served at the November
4th A&S feast.

August 2000
Cooksguild
had a lovely moonviewing at THL Marguerites home. Thanks to the first
rain in weeks we started the evening indoors, but after partaking of many
beautiful and tasty Japanese dishes (including Kappa sushi, Inari sushi,
steamed bao, edamame, Somen
no Aemono (recipe link),...) we were able to retire to the cool garden
to admire the moon, dangle our feet in a refreshing zen stream, and compose
Haiku.
Thanks
to everyone who came, made the effort to wear apropriate garb, create
Japanes dishes, and make our guests welcome.

The resultant cheesecakes were both delicious
(though very different from each other.)

June 2000
The Guild
made sausages in the fantastic kitchen at the Fighter Practice site, grilled
them on the outdoor grill, and let the populace in attendance enjoy them.
Many thanks to Mistress Kate for providing
most of the ingredients, the charcoal and a mustard; and to Lady Marguerite,
Lady Arwen, Lady Gwenhevare, and all the others who provided assistance
(grating cheese, mixing meat, leaning on the stuffer!, twisting links,
grilling, supervising, and of course consuming the final product.)
Two phrases often repeated
were: "<sniff, sniff> That
smells great" and after sampling a sausage "Hey, these are really
good!"
The sausages were created using Master Robin Vinehall's Beef
Sausage recipe.

Caerthe's cooks guild is
designed to further the art and science of cooking in the Barony of Caerthe
(Denver, CO.) Usually one meeting per month is facilitated by Mistress
Katherine Holford, the guild head. Meetings are based around a topic,
always include discussion, often there is a hands-on activity, sometimes
hand-outs are available, and we always share food. Garb is preferred,
but not required. Experience is not necessary.
Newcomers are ALWAYS WELCOME!
