Caerthe's Cooks Guild

Caerthe's cooks guild is designed to further the art and science of cooking in the Barony of Caerthe (Denver, CO.)  Usually one meeting per month is facilitated by Mistress Katherine Holford, the guild head.  Meetings are based around a topic, always  include discussion, often there is a hands-on activity, sometimes hand-outs are available, and we always share food.  Garb is preferred, but not required. Experience is not necessary.
Newcomers are ALWAYS WELCOME!

2004.... 2003...2002...2001... 2000 ... 1999...

Sunday, December 11, 2005 After a busy year for cooks guild, the cookie meeting was quiet and calming. The members who attended feasted on roast bird with chestnut stuffing, fresh bread, an amazingly creamy mushroom dish, meatpie, stollen, cheese and nuts and, of course, cookies. Thank you all for making it another great year for the guild.
Sunday, November 27, 2005. While the weather (windy) was not conducive to outdoor open fire cooking, we had a great time making the recipes indoor. The parsnips were very yummy, the stew warm and comforting, the salmon was stunning, and the chicken, bacon and sausage dish was incredible (my favorite.) The bread pudding with dates was not quite as set as the last time, but still quite delicious. I think everyone had a good time and I know they went away full. We welcomed a few new faces, hope to see you all again next month!
Sunday, October 23, 2005 Cheese making is hard and exacting work, but we had a GREAT time. ~10 interested participants helped heat the milk, monitor the temperature, introduce the culture, cut the curds and create 2 cheeses now aging in Mistress Kate's basement. Then we got to play with a quick (and yummy) mozzarella. All in all the day was a rousing success! Thank you Kate for providing all the supplies and hosting the very enthusiastic crowd.
Sunday, September 25, 2005 What a FUN evening it was. The lanterns glowed gently, so not to distract from the stars, the paper balls flew with vigor and the food, friendship and laughter were soothing to frazzled souls. A wonderful group of friends gathered to enjoy each others company and the delectable food provided by all. Their Excellencies graced our gathering and had the opportunity to meet several newcomers as well as close to a dozen 'old-timers.' Oh and the food was wonderful. O-cha and sake warmed the night, Mistress Arwen expertly grilled skewers of teriyaki beef, and everyone shared in the grilled delights as well as sashimi, onigiri, edamame, chicken (dearest lady, I forgot the name, but not the YUMMY chicken,.) plum jellies and other treats. Thank you ALL for such a memorable and enjoyable evening.

MONDAY, August 29, 2005 The evening was warm, just like the friends working together in the kitchen. We made and grilled teriyaki beef skewers as well as shoyu-chicken skewers for the reception at Talons, and enjoyed the gentle evening breeze and the sushi and other delectables everyone had brought to the potluck.

The reception at Talons of Fury was a great success with a lovely setting in the trees, the shimmer of traditional style lanterns sparkling over the pillows and tatami mats and yes, too much food. Though many and varied members of the barony and the kingdom came to partake of the generous fare and regale those present with stories, there were still plenty of leftovers which were greatly appreciated by the fencers from Scola Metallorum who got to enjoy them for lunch on Sunday.

FRIDAY, July 8, 2005 Thank you to everyone who came to a most relaxing Summer evening get together. Mistress Kate brought out her hanging fire pit and used her period style pottery purchased at CookConIII to recreate some open hearth cooking. A savory toasted cheese that was rich and delicious, and a chicken and sausage dish. Along with Ailea, Bruyere, Julianna, Tanwen, William and Gwen Cat, she enjoyed grilled meats, crisp salads, yummy sweets, and cooling lemonade. As the evening progressed the sweet sounds of song filled the sky.
TUESDAY, June 7, 2005 Wow, what a busy evening we had, and what fun. Mistress Kate's Herb garden provided so much wonderful material, and the group made herb salt, herbed vinegars, and with Mistress Arwens contribution, some incredible spice mixes (poudre douce, poudre fort...) All the evenings labors were taken away for use as Largess,by Caerthes most gentle Baroness Catherine who was present to help as well as inspire us in our efforts. Thank you all for coming, helping and your Excellency for participating. I hope you had as much fun as we did.
SUNDAY, May 1, 2005 Thank you Hinoki-sensei for gracing us with your presence and sharing this lovely and classic ritual with Caerthes Cooks Guild. The food was delicious, and included a cake brought by the portugese, rice balls, and sweet sakura jellies. The the weather chill but calm, perfect for sitting on a sheltered porch to contemplate the ceremony.
SUNDAY, April 24, 2005 Well, instead of sugarplate, since the members present were already quite familiar with the material, we sipped tea and planned the next few months. Hope to see more of you in May and June
Sunday March 20, 2005 Thank you Scola Metallorum and specifically Don Tristan and Dona Arcadia for hosting Caerthe's Cooks Guld at Scolas Build-It Day. We used natural dyes like onion skins, cocheneal, saffron and red cabbage to color hard-cooked eggs. While no one had the wherewithall to bring a camera to take pictures of the amazingly bright and beautifully dyed finished eggs, a great time was had by all. The cocheneal made an amazing bright purple and the red cabbage a stunning blue after letting the eggs sit in the dye overnight.
Sunday February 27, 2005 We met at the Royal India Restaurant, 1550 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver. An amazing 14 wonderful gentles attended the meeting, and partook of the incredible delicious, inexpensive and filling lunch buffet. Conversation flowed as freely as the chai and a great time was had by all. Thanks to ALL who joined us.
Saturday, January 8, 2005 Enormous thanks are due to all those who helped with the Boar's Head at 12th Night, especially Julianna, who donated the head and helped assemble it along with Bruyere, Gwen-Cat, who stood in line with it, the last minute decorators, the singers, THL Grellan who lead "The Boar's Head Caroll", their Excellencies of Caerthe and his Majesty, who began the carving, (someone took a picture, please share it!) and, most of all, the very understanding autocrat, Arwen, who allowed us to do this at 12th Night.
Next year, more singers! a bigger, flaming boar's head, morris dancers! An incredibly understanding autocrat . . . Thank you all! Kate
