Developing your personal Web Site on the Clem WebServer

Every student at Metro has the capability to post their very own web site through the Clem/Unix account management services. However, all site developers (this means you) are expected to adhere to the college’s Responsible Use Policy and follow all copyright laws.

In order to post your web site to the Clem server, you must first activate and configure your account. Your Clem account will remain active for one year after you graduate from Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Activate your user account:

This provides you with your user name and an initial password which you are required to change.

· Login to MetroConnect and select the “My Services Registration” tab.

· Click on the link titled “My Services”. You will then be prompted to login to MetroConnect a second time.

· Click on the link titled “Clem Account Management Services”.

· Click on the link “Look Up Your Academic Computing Account…”.

· Click the radio button to the left of “Yes, I have read…”.

· Click on the “Lookup Network ID” button.

· Click “Yes” to create your account.

Your Clem account is now active. However, you must change your initial password. To do this, click on the link “Click here to change/reset your password”. (Changing your password will only affect your Clem account, it will not affect your MetroConnect password, that will remain the same.)

Configure your account:

To configure your account, you must first login to your Clem account.

• From the Windows Start button, click Run.
• Type telnet clem.mscd.edu
• You will be prompted for your login which is the “user name”. Enter your user name in lower case and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
• You will be prompted for your password. Enter your password in lower case and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. Please note that when you are typing your password, this will not be reflected on your monitor.
• At the % prompt, type webaccess and hit the enter key on your keyboard.
• The access rights have just been created so that others can view your web pages.
• Type exit at the prompt.

Your account is now configured and you are ready to upload (ftp – file transfer protocol) your files into your account. The ftp host is clem.mscd.edu and the path to your web site directory is ~username/public_html (where username is your network ID).

Please make sure to write down your user name and your Clem password. You will need to have this information when you are ready to upload your files for your Web Authoring assignment.

Your website is now on-line and accessible for the entire World to see once you have uploaded your files! Your web address is: http://clem.mscd.edu/~username
