Learn more about the TQE Program

— training tomorrow's urban educators —

Teacher Quality Enhancement (TQE) is a federally-funded grant program authorized under the Higher Education Act (HEA) aimed at developing strategies to effectively prepare high quality teachers.  Metropolitan State College of Denver (MSCD) and the Denver Public Schools (DPS) were awarded a Partnership grant in 2004 to prepare teachers for urban middle and high schools.

The purpose of the five-year grant is to design, establish and pilot test a framework for a collaborative school-college partnership aimed at the effective preparation of teachers in four content areas (math, science, English and social studies) through clinical learning practices (courses and field experiences) in eight middle and high schools called Urban Apprentice Schools (UAS) across the district.

Following the expiration of the grant, our expectation is to expand the model to include other DPS secondary schools as well as other urban school districts across the state.
