Welcome

Try to imagine if everybody was the same as you.  What would it be like if everyone thought and did the same thing everyday?  What would it be like if no one in the world was different?  Why do you think being different is important?

Everyone has a characteristic about them that is the same or different from everyone else.  It is so important to understand a difference or similarity to be able to have respect in the classroom and in society.

If you get to know someone else, you might find that you have something in common, or you might also find out that you both have differences that make you unique and special.

We are all different in some way because we have all had different experiences.  If everyone were the same, wouldn’t the world be a boring place?

What will you be doing?

Students will learn about each other’s history, disability, beliefs, culture, goals, strengths and weaknesses by getting to know another peer through role-play, interviewing, and presentations.

The teacher will start by leading your class in a group discussion using the questions in the section titled welcome.

Then you will learn about the organization of a group. In an organized group the teacher has the role of leading the project and the students have their own roles.  Use the link for organization of a group to find out what the teacher will be doing and what your role as a student is.

Steps

After you have been placed in your groups and the teacher has finished the class discussion on understanding and respect you should begin your projects.  Here is where you will find the steps about the process you and your group will need to take to complete the task.

Conclusion

Hopefully you have learned enough about someone in your class that you have been able to understand them a little better.  So far, you have interviewed, role-played, researched, and compared with just your group.

In this part of the activity, your teacher will have a class discussion that will allow you to compare and contrast with everyone and share your feelings about the things you have learned.
