Students must complete a paper that is research that was completed for an agency or an individual. The paper will be prepared for and presented to the individual. However, the grade will be determined by the instructor. The research must have actual practical application and meet the need of some agency or individual. students must obtain the instructors approval for any topic. students may find their own agency, or area, or the instructor complete one of the projects provided by the instructor. Students may work in groups of up to three students, or as an individual.

The paper must include:

  • Description of the literature (review of literature) in the area and what others have found.

  • A description of the project and the purpose of the research, who will use the information.

  • The results of the project, or findings.

  • Conclusions.

  • Further research needed.

  • Bibliography

The paper must be formal and meet one set of standards described in the The Criminal Justice Students Writers Manual. The system chosen must be used consistently throughout the paper.

The paper must be formally bound or in a white binder with cover inserts. I will keep one copy of the paper. If you want a copy of the paper you must submit an extra copy, or maintain a copy.

Please keep in mind that research of a topic is envisioned as work that requires depth, thoughtfulness, clarity and diligence. While there is no minimum number of pages, the paper must be long enough to provide the needed information. If would be difficult, if not impossible, to present a top quality paper in less than 20 to 30 pages. Likewise, volume does not mean that a project or paper is of quality. Any format recognized by manual writes is acceptable. Remember that the final product should be devoid of typographical errors, incorrect spelling and garbled syntax.

Oral Presentation:
students must provide a half hour presentation concerning the topic that they researched to the class. The presentation must include the use of audio/visuals. The presentation will be graded on both content and presentation.
