129. Ichabod Brownell (Alice Southworth , Edward Southworth , Rebecca ) was born on 30 Aug 1750 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.
Ichabod married Elizabeth Stanley about 1776. Elizabeth was born about 1755.
They had the following children:
402 F i Amy Brownell was born in 1778 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island, United States.
403 F ii Betsey Brownell was born on 24 Mar 1780 in , Litchfield, Connecticut, United States.

Jeremiah Brownell (Ichabod's brother) was born in Little Compton, RI , 4/21/1749 , of Aaron and Alice (Southworth ) Brownell, according to the vital statistics of Little Compton. Aaron Brownell died in 1754 and the widow Alice took her children and moved to Connecticut. Her sons Aaron, Edward and Ichabod served in the Revolution from that state and afterwards moved to Vermont. Daughters Elizabeth and Cynthia stayed in Connecticut and married there. The widow Alice, with her son Jeremiah and daughter Lucy, went to Nova Scotia.

This Georgian Style house at 73 East Allen Street is made of rough-cut sandstone and is the oldest standing building in Winooski. It contained a renowned tavern run by Ichabod Brownell from 1793-1811. In the mid 19th century it was converted into apartments. It now houses a professional office on the ground floor and the Winooski Historical Society on the second level.
Ichabod and his brother Aaron move to Vermont in 1792, and Edward in 1802.

Ichabod Brownell fought in Col. Hinman’s Fourth Regiment, 9th Company. He enlisted at Litchfield, County, CT. and fought in the Battles of Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point.
Ichabod Brownell was born August 30, 1750 in Little Compton, RI. He married Elizabeth Stanley (B: 1755) in apx. 1773 in CT.
They had Four Children:
Cynthia Brownell B: Apx. 1774 in CT. (who we stem from) married three times (twice to the same man). Marriages: 1) John Rollson 2) Thomas Hill 3) John Rollson -- all marriages are documented . . . as is her divorce from Thomas Hill.
Ama/Amy Brownell B: apx 1778. Marriage: William Munson
Elizabeth/Betsy Brownell B: apx. 1784. Marriage: David Hill
Lucy Brownell B: apx. 1787 D: 1796
Ichabod Brownell and his family migrated from Canaan, CT in 1792 to Winooski, Chittenden County, VT. There he operated “Brownell’s Tavern” also known as “The Old Stone House.” The Tavern is still standing today at 73 East Allen Street, Winooski, VT and now houses the Winooski Historical Society.
Ichabod Brownell served in the governing process of the new town of Colchester, Chittenden County, VT. He also kept livestock - during that time of our history, livestock were allowed to roam free and each owner was required to have their own brand which was registered in the Town Records. Ichabod’s distinctive mark for his livestock was “a slit in the end of the right ear and a square crop off the left ear.”
According to the 1807 Colchester Grand List, Ichabod Brownell was one of only nine residents prosperous enough to be able to afford a watch. It was appraised with a value of $5.00 (in today’s monetary standards that is about $200.00).
Ichabod Brownell died in 1811 and is buried at the Green Mountain Cemetery in Burlington, Chittenden County, VT. He left a Will that gave his estate to his wife, with mention made of his daughters.
Elizabeth Stanley Brownell survived her husband (and ran the Tavern) until she died in 1841. She is buried next to her husband Ichabod, and their young daughter Lucy at the cemetery mentioned above. Elizabeth Brownell also left a Will . . . giving her daughters equal shares in her estate.
