From: Il Primo libro delle Musche a una
due voci Himno: Jesu corona Virginum is part of the Il Primo libro delle Musche a una due voci which was written in 1618. It is instrumented for organ continuo and solo soprano voice, as are most of the pieces in her collection. One of the interesting aspects of this piece is the instrumental ritornello, which was innovative for her time. Along with the instrumental ritornellos, it includes five verses that each carries a different variation on the first melody. Francesca learned composition from her father, Guilio Caccini, so therefore she incorporated some of his ideas into her music. This is evident in her ornamentation though out Il Primo libro delle Musche a una due voci. Each of the four verses has at least one melisma; verses two through five include a long melismatic passage. The piece has one flat, which would make it in the modern key of 'F'. Himno: Jesu corona Virginum is supposed to be played in a swinging triple meter. |
